Quadcopter First Flights

Haha, it flies! I had no idea what to expect for the first series of flight…at least nothing broke.

Here is one of the indoor tests. I had the stability turned off for the yaw axis, and that’s why it spins around in the air like that. It’s kind of cool to see how necessary the gyroscopes are for stability. Clearly, it would be impossible for me to control the quadcopter if it was like this all the time.

Check out the really awesome styrofoam cups for “landing gear”. It’s quite a juxtaposition with all of the technology on the quad. I’ve placed an order for a better solution.

Here is another test, this time outside. Flying over concrete was a bad idea because it flipped a couple of times and scratched the props. From now on I’ll be in grassy fields! This has the stability on the yaw axis turned on. You can definitely see that there is no longer a problem of spinning crazily in the air. Cool. I was being very careful with my control of it and honestly, I don’t have very good piloting skills. For my next flights I’ll turn down the sensitivity of the controls and just concentrate on getting a good handle on how to fly it.
